KISSing and coffeepots

Keeping It Simple, Stupid, that is.

Our coffee maker died yesterday. Right after dinner I ran out to K-Mart, 1/2 mile away, and picked up the cheapest, most acceptable looking one I could find. It's a Black and Decker and cost $14. I have no idea whether it got good reviews or not. It has one on/off switch. It makes coffee. Good enough.

Last time, I tried to be a good little consumer and get the absolute best coffeemaker at the best possible price. I checked online reviews, I went to 3 or 4 stores, and ended up spending $55 at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It was a Braun with a programmable timer. Great reviews. Sale price. 4 buttons, two lights. It was a pain in the patootie from the first day we had it. And it died after 3 years and 3 months. What a lot of wasted effort!

Last night we had coffee going in the new pot within 1/2 an hour of the old one dying, and I was able to relax for the rest of my Sunday evening. And I don't even care if this one dies in a year, it will still be cheaper per year than the last one.

Isn't that the truth? We bought a yuppie coffeepot once that ground the beans too, yeah, right. What a mess. Took it back to Costco.

Then we bought one that went into a carafe to stay warm from one of those expensive brands. You have to preheat the carafe or the coffee would not be hot enough, plus it didn't fit under our cabinet. What a pain.

Now we have a plain old Mr. Coffee and it works great!

We use an old blue tin coffee percolater (spelling) on the stove when we camp and darn if that is not my favorite coffee!! lol

But I also have the $9.99 model for home (on/off are all the fancy choices that it has) and it works great...Itt is about 5 years old now and just keeps on perkin!

    No need for fancy/shmancy here!

So, I'm still wondering and searching for a USA made coffee maker. This does not answer that question at all yet my search led me here. Where and what brand is made in the USA...not just for the jobs reason, that being enough...but for safety reasons too. China, Korea etc. cannot be trusted. Thanks.

BUNN is made in Springfield IL. Their commercial grade is all Stainless steel and starts for around 200 bucks.

FYI... Some Bunn's are now made in China also. The Bunn STX is. Frown

So, what if I told you that an American was thinking of manufacturing a coffee maker that is 100% made in America from start to finish. From the plastic to the glass to the circuit and elements. By products made here in the USA and assembled in the USA. Would anyone here be interested?

Yes, after doing extensive research I found that BUNN only assembles with foreign parts three series of their coffeemakers in the USA, they are those with the GR, BX, & BT series symbols and the rest are made in China! What a disappointment! BUNN's service support is excellent! 100% made in America from start to finish I would surely buy! No wander our economy is in such poor shape, we are not manufacturing in America!
