Feel like I just threw away a $50 bill

November 15th, 2006 at 03:31 pm

Today was the last day to do a Hyundai test drive for $50. I've just faced the fact it's not going to happen, and put the mailer in my to-be-shredded bin.

I don't really like going to car dealerships, or facing car salesmen, or trying to explain that I'm not really interested in a new car yet. If I'm feeling pretty high-energy and confident, I can do it. But today I'm tired, and I can't stand the current household mess, and I don't feel desperate enough for the money. I'd rather stay home and get my life back in order.

Yes, I've had weeks to do it, but I'm still adjusting to those extra work hours, and I'm still recoving from Election Day last week.

I know I can't take advantage of every opportunity, and have to set priorities. But it still feels like I'm throwing away money!

Well, the bright side is that you're not losing any money. You're just not gaining anything from that deal... which I think is fine since it's not worth the hassle to you.

Sometimes hassles cost too much in stress for me. I think you did fine. And it makes me glad I have finally found a (used) car guy I love. He never pushes me, doesn't talk down to me and lets me think and we test drive without him so we can talk about the car! I love this guy. We've bought a couple of cars from other people, but once we found this one, we hit the jackpot.

You are not losing money. I always feell like I have to take a shower when I leave a car dealership. I don't know 50 dollars is worth the stress and aggravation!

I've actually heard these test drive deals aren't a hassle at all. In fact, the last time my husband went to do one he was straightforward with the sales guy. He told the guy he didn't want to waste his (the sales guy's) time and that he was just there for the $50. The guy signed the card and my husband was free to go in less than five minutes. He didn't even have to test drive a car! Easy $50, that's for sure.
